Through annual giving and estate planning, Dunmires support cybersecurity research at the NWC

Phil and Linda Dunmire

Philanthropy is central to the ethos of Phil and Linda Dunmire, who acknowledge that their good fortune and planning allow them to not only offer financial support to their children and their families but also to the charitable organizations that they value.

The Dunmires’ experience with the Naval War College has given them an appreciation for its heritage and its contribution to the sophistication and expertise of the military’s leadership. Strong believers in philanthropy, they encourage others to capitalize on opportunities to connect with the College—noting that “the experience of interacting with the talented students who are headed for senior leadership roles is very compelling.” In his role as a NWCF trustee and a charter member of its cyber task force, Phil became aware of the need for sustained support of the NWC’s Cyber & Innovation Policy Institute.

This led the Dunmires to establish a fund to benefit the Institute and make regular annual gifts to the NWCF designated for that fund. To ensure that it is fully funded at $100,000 even if their donations do not reach that amount during their lifetimes, the fund is named as a beneficiary of an individual retirement account in their estate plan; this strategy allows for a tax-efficient means of meeting the Dumires’ charitable goals. The NWCF, and the College that benefits, are grateful for their generosity.
